New Faces Take Philippine National Titles
30 November 2018
With possible berths to the 2019 SEA Games on the line, first-time competitors Edrian Paul Celestino and Cirinia Gillett won the men's and ladies' events respectively at the 2018 Philippine National Figure Skating Championships, held last November 25 and 26 at the SM Mall of Asia Ice Skating Rink.
With reigning champion Alisson Krystle Perticheto still recovering from injury, Gillett stepped in to take the gold over Louwee Shibata in her first outing as a singles skater for the Philippines. She also repeated as junior pairs champion with partner Zachary Freedman. Having previously represented Canada internationally, these championships marked Celestino's debut for the Philippines. He won convincingly over Christopher Caluza - returning to competition after a hiatus - and Yamato Rowe. Continuing her winning streak at Nationals, Sofia Isabel Victoria Guidote was crowned Junior National Champion, followed by Diane Gabrielle Panlilio and Skye Frances Patenia, Amanda Sophie Hernandez (Advanced Novice Girls), Kate Orrock (Intermediate Novice Girls), Brandon Baldoz (Intermediate Novice Boys), Felicity Cristobelle Eco (Basic Novice Girls), Celine Isabelle Tansipek (Pre-Novice Girls), and Hannela Reine Vicera (Juvenile Girls) rounded out the list of winners.
